Standards Development Division

Standards Development Division (SDD) is responsible for the adoption and maintenance of Myanmar Standards which in line with the needs to develop socio-economic of citizen and promotion on use of   these standards in product, process and service sectors. This division also provides awareness raising training in standardization to industries and associations, co-operates with international and regional organizations, takes responsibility as National Enquiry Point of WTO/TBT and makes collection of  survey data and implementing the research for continuation of Myanmar Standards development.

Standards Development Division co-operates and facilitates with (26) standardization technical sub committees organized by National Standards Council to develop Myanmar Standards. National Standards Council approved and endorsed the 50 Myanmar Standards as 1st batch on 10th July 2018 and the majority is identical with international to support trade facilitation. With the approval of National Standards Council, 2nd batch of 43 Myanmar standards on 21 February 2019, 3rd batch of 82 Myanmar Standards on 29 November 2019 and 4th batch of 264 Myanmar standards on 26 May 2020, 5th batch of  259 standards on 18 May 2022 and 6th batch of 58 standards on 9 November 2022 had also been endorsed respectively with the total of (756) Myanmar Standards and then the (3) draft Myanmar Standards is processing under the public enquiry stage. Moreover, the proposed standards (106) are conducting on the committee stage of relevant technical sub-committee.

Information Service of Standards Development Division

Standards Development Division establishes standards library and the various kinds of book such as quality management system, conformity assessment and quality infrastructure related books are available to read and refer. The library also collects the international standards such as ISO and IEC, ASTM standards, British standards, India standards, DIN standards, Russian standards, ISO Focus and other newsletters and standards catalogues. The library can be accessed during office hour.

Standards are used in everywhere as well as in business and in our daily lives. Standards are an important part of our society.

Standards

Standard is a document, established by consensus and approved by a recognized body, that provides for common and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context.

Standardization

Standardization means an activity of establishing, with regard to actual or potential problems, provisions for common and repeated use, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context. In particular, the activity consists of the processes of formulating, issuing and implementing standards.

Standards benefit the technological, economic and society. They help to harmonize technical specifications of products and services making industry more efficient and breaking down barriers to international trade.

For society — Consumers can have confidence that they are safe, reliable and of good quality.     (to make the world a safer place and preserve the environment and the health of citizens)

For government— support public policy, for example, by referencing ISO standards in regulations.

This forms can be used for proposing the new standards for the adoption of Myanmar Standards (MMS) and can also be used in reviewing existing standards (revision), (amendment) and cancellation (withdraw). Proposals may be submitted by proposers with this filled forms to the Department of Research and Innovation. Sample soft copy forms are available on the download link below.

National Standards and Quality Department invites comments from the public and other interested parties on the following Draft Myanmar Standards.

The Comment received will be considered by the relevant Technical Committee and National Standards and Quality Department before these draft standards are finalized.

Comment  requested  the DMMS  ISO / IEC standards are identically adopted   to ISO / IEC standards .As  we need to  prevent  copy right , we show only scope of  this standards. If you  want to read  details  standards, you can  read  at the National Standards Library.

Standards Development Division of National Standards and Quality Department under the Department of Research and Innovation is selling Myanmar Standards and also selling ISO standards and IEC standards as a National Member Body of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

When purchasing IEC Standards, To contact to IEC Sale Department through NSQD to purchase the MMSIEC listed Standards that have been declared to IEC  as NSQDDRI is a Affiliate plus member of IEC . For purchasing those listed Standards , The prize will be costed by 10% of IEC Standards Catalogue price ( 90% discount)   . To purchase with discount price, the application will be needed to the Director General, Department of Research and Innovation for approval.

International Cooperation

The Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) is a correspondence member of International Standards Organization(ISO) since 2005. Myanmar Standards are adopted as references to ISO standards, IEC Standards and other national Standards. DRI holds the World Standards Day ceremony on October 14 in every year and participates the meetings, trainings and workshops concerned with ISO. DRI  is also a affiliate member of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) since 2017. WTO/TBT national enquiry point (Myanmar) is undertaking to support the information on enquiry with the related ministries.

Regional Cooperation

Standards Development Division is taking part as a country focal point of ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) Working Group 1- Standards and MRA. DRI (Myanmar) hosted the 38th (ACCSQ) Working Group 1- Standards and MRA meeting on may 25 to 27, 2017. As a prioritize, ASEAN Harmonized Standards are adopted as a Myanmar Standards.

National Cooperation
