The Myanmar Accreditation Body (MNAB) is part of the Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) is the responsible Authority for Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) in Myanmar.

The Role of the MNAB

The role of the MNAB is to provide voluntary formal recognition of technical competence of conformity assessment bodies such as testing and calibration laboratories, quality management certification bodies and inspection bodies in accordance with international accreditation standards and procedures.

In addition the MNAB provides:

  • Technical assistance and training to organizations working in conformity Assessment  Bodies;
  • Conducts awareness workshops and seminars on the advantages of accreditation;
  • Sharing technical information with stakeholders.

Today, the ‘MNAB goal is increasing our capabilities in order to achieve mutual recognition of our accreditation services by regional and international accreditation organizations. With the assistance of international donor organizations, our staff has and is being formally trained in the organization and operation of the national accreditation body.

In the future, the MNAB will be able to provide accreditation services in accordance with the following international standards.

As part of this goal, we are establishing close cooperation with the National Accreditation Body of Singapore, the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC).  The SAC will be our partner accreditation body, with SAC, we can offer joint accreditation services here in Myanmar that will be recognized nationally, regionally and internationally. SAC’s Mutual Recognition Arrangement partners include various international organizations, such as ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation), IAF (International Accreditation Forum), APLAC (Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and PAC (Pacific Accreditation Cooperation).

It should be noted that countries that are signatories of the MRAs recognize that the conformity assessment bodies accredited by their partners operate in an equivalent way, and that they deliver equivalent accreditations, providing the same level of competence and confidence. Therefore, test or inspection reports or certificates issued by a signature of the MRA’s are recognized by the MRA partners as equivalent to those issued by their own accredited bodies.
