The Accreditation Division is a National Accreditation Body (Myanmar Accreditation Body) which is responsible Authority for Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies in Myanmar. The MAB performs based on ISO/IEC 17011, Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies.
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is the recognition of the competence of Conformity Assessment Bodies such as Laboratories, Inspection Bodies and Certification Bodies which are complied with international standards and related documents by an independence third party.
What is Conformity Assessment Bodies?
Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) are Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Inspection Bodies and Certification Bodies that perform conformity assessment services.

What are the Benefits of Accreditation
Accreditation of CAB’s contributes to the reduction of technical barriers to trade and therefore facilitates the free movement of goods and services across the borders. This means, producers can have access to foreign markets without the need of re-testing, re-certification or re-inspection of their products and services.
As far as national trade is concerned, accreditation reduces the transaction costs as accredited conformity assessment is the tool to enhance trust and confidence in products delivered.
This is also the reason why Governments are using accreditation in order to source out their increasing conformity assessment activities. So far, Accreditation contributes substantially to safety and health in a country.
Myanmar Accreditation Body Action Plan 2020-2025
The Accreditation Department (Myanmar Accreditation Body-MAB) of National Standards and Quality Department(NSQD) from Department of Research and Innovation(DRI) under the Ministry of Education performs accreditation services to conformity assessment bodies for implementing accreditation process in Myanmar.
As the future plan and strategy for accreditation, Myanmar Accreditation Body has undertaken to set out the Accreditation Action Plan (2020-2025) with the assistance of the PTB (Germany) to develop National Quality Infrastructure.
In 18th December 2019, “Workshop on MAB Accreditation Action Plan” was held by the technical support of Mr.Graham Talbot, Consultant from PTB, to lay solid foundations for the Action Plan and MAB’s strategy for the future. This workshop was attended the 15 representatives from DRI, NSQD and MAB.
Overview
The Accreditation Division, which is part of the National Standards and Quality Department under Department of Research and Innovation in the Ministry of Education, is the responsible Authority for Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies in Myanmar and performs accreditation process to comply with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011.
The Accreditation Division provided the conformity assessment trainings on ISO/IEC17011, ISO/IEC17025, ISO/IEC17020, ISO/IEC 17065 and Lead Assessor by the assistance of UNIDO and PTB(Germany) to implement the work plan of the roadmap which comply with international standards and guidelines.
On 8 th June, 2017, DRI has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) at 6th Joint Ministerial Working Committee in Singapore to perform joint assessment for internationally recognize Accreditation Body. According to the implementation of this MoU, Myanmar Accreditation Body and Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) performed knowledge sharing session for Stakeholders in 11th September 2017 and 12th June 2018 at MELIA Hotel, Yangon. SAC organized training on ISO/IEC17025, ISO 15189, ISO/IEC 17020 and Assessor Training for Conformity Assessment Bodies in October 2018 at DRI. Myanmar Accreditation Body (MAB) and Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) conducted joint assessment for Microbiological Laboratory of Food and Drug Administration under Ministry of Health and Sport in August 2018. Besides, In January 2019, MAB cooperates with the SAC assessment which has performed to the two Medical Laboratories in Myanmar. On 15 th January 2019, Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) and Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) discussed about the future plan to implement accreditation process at Sedona Hotel, Yangon.

To provide formal recognition of technical competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Inspection Bodies and Certification Bodies in accordance with International Standards and Procedures.
Accreditation Service
The Laboratory Accreditation Section of Myanmar Accreditation Body performs Testing and Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Service. This section assesses laboratory based on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and other relevant requirements.
The Laboratory Accreditation Section offers the accreditation scheme:
Accreditation Testing and Calibration Laboratories – determines the technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories based on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and specific technical requirements relevant to a field of testing or calibration.
As the joint assessment services, Myanmar Accreditation Body and Singapore Accreditation Council performs the accreditation services for the conformity assessment bodies in Myanmar.

Accreditation asthe key to food safety throughout the entire food value chain
“How Accreditation Improves Food Safety” is the topic of this year’s World Accreditation Day which is celebrated on 9 June each year. This year, the importance of accreditation to ensure food safety and quality is being illustrated in detail.
Besides metrology and standardization, accreditation is an important pillar of the quality infrastructure of an economy. ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards & Quality- Working Group 2 (ACCSQ WG2)
Accreditation Division is the Contact point of the Working Group on Accreditation and Conformity Assessment : ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality: Working Group 2 (ACCSQ : WG2) of the ASEAN Cooperation. The 33rd Meeting of the ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality (ACCSQ) Working Group 2 on Accreditation and Conformity Assessment was held at M Gallery Hotel, Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 13-15 September 2017.
The Meeting was attended by delegates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat.
Myanmar is indeed honored to play host the second time for this meeting. Myanmar hosted 24th ACCSQ WG2 meeting in 2013.
