Department of Research and Innovation under the Ministry of Education collaborated with PTB (Germany) celebrated World Metrology Day (2019) for the third time at the Melia Hotel, Kabaaye Pagoda Road, Yangon in May 20 2019.
This celebration event was attended by H.E. Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, Union Minister, Ministry of Education and Dr. Katharina Spiess, Counselor of Federal Republic of Germany, the Vice-Chairman of the Ygn Region Hluttaw, the Minister of Social Affairs and the representatives from Ygn Region Hluttaw, the members from National Standard Council, the rectors from each universities in Yangon, the Chairman of UMFCCI, key persons from Myanmar Engineer Council, MES, MRF, the representatives from the international organization such as PTB, GIZ, USAID, UNIDO and JICA, the managers from the related industrial zones, the small and medium enterprises, the distinguish guests and the representative persons from National Institutes of Metrology-Myanmar (NIMM).
H.E. Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, Union Minister, Ministry of Education delivered welcome and opening speech. And the Counselor of Federal Republic of Germany and representatives from PTB also gave the opening speech. Then H.E. Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and the distinguish guests viewed the Video Clip of International Metrology awareness program, took photos and looked/viewed around the poster gallery of National Metrology Activities in Myanmar.
The ceremony continued to hold for the topical presentations by Mr. Keith Jones, PTB Expert with ‘The International System of Units-Fundamentally better, Dr. Kyaw Soe Lwin, Director of (NIMM) with ‘Industrial Metrology and establishing the NIMM’, U Thet Lwin from Supreme Enterprise with ‘Optimized Calibration Efforts (A Risk-based Approach)’, Dr. Myo Aung Kyaw, vice-chairman of MRF with ‘The Importance of Rice Moisture and Trade of Myanmar Rice and Paddy’, Dr. Wai Ye Lin, Assistant Director, Ministry of Commerce with ‘The need of Grain Moisture Testers Traceability System establishment and its related activities’, and U Win Tint, Deputy Director, NIMM with ‘Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection’, respectively.
This celebration event was also accompanied by the Panel Discussion in the afternoon. Mr. Keith Jones, PTB Expert, Dr. Kyaw Soe Lwin, Director of (NIMM), U Myint Wai, Director, MOC, U Thet Lwin from Supreme Enterprise and Dr. Myo Aung Kyaw, vice-chairman of MRF cordially involved in this event and discussed about metrology development in Myanmar. After the discussion, the panelists replied to the attendees’ questions.
After that, the ceremony on World Metrology Day (2019) successfully concluded at 4 in the evening.
On 20 May 1875, representatives of 17 nations gathered together in Paris to sign the Meter Convention (or Metric Treaty) and provided the basis for a coherent measurement system worldwide. This date was chosen in recognition of the signing of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875, the beginning of formal international collaboration in metrology and World Metrology Day is celebrated worldwide each year.
Department of Research and Innovation, MOE, established the National Institute of Metrology (Myanmar) (NIMM) in No.(6), Kabaaye Pagoda Road, Yankin. At NIMM, Nation’s most accurate and advanced measurement standards and standard measuring equipments related with dimension, weight and balance, electrical, volume, pressure and rice moisture are maintained and the calibration services on measurement apparatus from factories, workshops, services, government institutes and organizations are performed.
