On July 22, 2016, the ceremony for the Introduction and Availability of The Handbook on Standards, Metrology, and Conformity Assessment: Tools to Facilitate Trade and Market Access took place at the Myanmar Engineering Society (MES). The National Standards and Quality Department of the Department of Research and Innovation and the Myanmar Engineering Society together with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Private Sector Development Project in Myanmar have jointly developed this handbook to create awareness and show the importance of Standards, Metrology and Conformity Assessment as they relate to trade facilitation, export competitiveness and market access in the Union of Myanmar.
The ceremony was opened by addresses from Director General of DRI, Mr. Win Khaing Moe, President of MES Mr. Aung Myint, and Mr. Manoj Dessi, Senior Commercial Officer from the U.S Embassy. The ceremony was attended by representatives from various Technical Committees for Standardization, the private sector and members of MES and DRI.
Mr. Ed Nemeroff, Senior Technical Advisor from USAID project delivered the presentation on the introduction and demonstration of the Handbook.
This was followed by Dr.Zar Ni Aung, Director of NSQD presented a progress report on the Activities of Myanmar National Quality Infrastructure, this was followed by Mr. MyoThwin, and Central Executive Committee of MES described the activities of Myanmar Engineering Society.
A representative of the US Embassy made special presentation, a donation of metrology e-learning training materials to MES and DRI.
The Ceremony was closed by Dr.Charle Than, Vice President of MES who thanked everyone one and then the ceremony was successfully closed.
