With the objective of implementing “Model Certification Body”, “Conformity Assessment-Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services (ISO/IEC 17065:2012) for Myanmar “ was held on 15 -16 November 2022 at Meeting room, department of research and innovation (DRI). Accordingly, Director General of the department of research and innovation (DRI) was delivered the opening speech and about 40 participants including Director General, Deputy Director General and relevant officials from DRI, relevant ministries and non-government organizations had actively attended to the workshop. On the first day of the workshop, director from Department of National Standards and Quality(NSQD) explained the “Current Status for the Initiative for the establishment of the National Certification Body(NCB) and also director from Standards Development Division, Department of National Standards and Quality explained the overview of the AHKFTA-ECOTECH Work Programme: Training on Conformity Assessment- requirements for bodies certifying products, peocesses and services(ISO/IEC 17065-2012). After that Team Leader(TL), Mr. Ong Yeok Siew @ Michael Ong introduced about the training programme which will be hold on February 2023 via online system and then explained for the group discussion. Then representative from electrical inspection department(EI) presented “Roles and responsibilities” via online, Ministry of Construction(MOC) and Professional Engineers(PEs) presented “Roles and responsibilities” and Department of Agriculture and CBs presented “Roles and responsibilities”. In the last session of the first day, leaders from each group explained about the group exercise respectively. On the second day of the workshop, director from Standards Development Division recapped of the day 1: AHKFTA-ECOTECH Work Programme, Training on CA-ISO?IEC 17065, Selection of participants for ISO/IEC 17065 trainings and Roles and responsibilities of regulators, businesses, PEs and consumers. Then TL explained about the NCBs in ASEAN. After that director from Department of National Standards and Quality(NSQD) explained “National Standards and Quality Infrastructure in Myanmar, and FDA was presented “Roles and responsibilities of FDA”. Then two groups discussed and explained on roles of CBs to assist regulators, PEs, Businesses and Consumers. After that EI was presented “ Accident rates involving electricity in Myanmar” via online. Then TL presented about the next steps and then Director General of the department of research and innovation (DRI) was delivered the closing speech and the workshop was adjourned.
