World Metrology Day was held for the first time on May 19, 2017 in Innyar Lake Hotel, Myanmar.
As the metrology is the science of measurement, it aims to raise the awareness among regulators, industry and consumers of the importance of metrology to integration in Global trade but also to daily life through channels like consumers’ protection, health and environmental protection. World Metrology Day falls on May 20th. The theme for the World Metrology Day 2017 is “Measurements for transport”.
It was organized by Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) of the Ministry of Education with the support of PTB, the National Metrology Institute of Germany.
Opening speeches were delivered by the Deputy Minister of Education H.E. U Win Maw Tunand Ms. SvenjaWeyrauch,Project Coordinator,PTB. Presentations were made by international and local experts from PTB, DRI, Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Association, Department of Fishery and Department of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). The ceremony was attended by Parliament Members, Government, industry, trade associations and experts from PTB, USAID, GIZ, UNIDO and representative from International and national organizations.Currently DRI is drafting the Metrology Law with the help of PTB and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).Meanwhile National Institute of Metrology, Myanmar which will maintainthe national measurement standards of the country is now being built and will be completed by 2018.
